Lumbini itinerary, day by day

Day 1 – Gorakhpur to Lumbini, Sacred Garden

About three hours including the border. Afternoon in the Sacred Garden: the Maya Devi temple with the marker stone, the Ashoka pillar and the Puskarini pond.

Day 2 – Lumbini monastic zone

A day by cycle-rickshaw or e-cart through the monastic zone — the Myanmar Golden Temple, the Royal Thai monastery, the Chinese and German temples — and the World Peace Pagoda.

Day 3 – Tilaurakot and Kapilavastu

A drive west to Tilaurakot, the excavated palace site of the Shakya kingdom, and the Kapilavastu museum, back to Lumbini by evening.

Day 4 – Return to Gorakhpur

Morning meditation or the eternal flame, then the short drive back to Gorakhpur, with Kushinagar on request.
