Manali sits at the head of the Kullu valley, about 540 km from Delhi and 270 km from Chandigarh. Most travellers reach it by overnight Volvo from Delhi or Chandigarh; the nearest airport is Bhuntar, about 50 km away, with limited flights.
How many days? Three nights covers Manali town, Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel side. Four nights adds a slower Naggar or Kullu day. With five nights you can go down the Parvati valley to Kasol and Manikaran, or through the tunnel to Sissu in Lahaul.
When to go? March to June for pleasant weather and green valleys; December to February for snow at Solang; October for clear skies and fewer crowds. July and August bring landslides on the Mandi road.
