The route climbs gradually, from Kathmandu at 1,400 m to Ghandruk at about 2,000 m and Muktinath at 3,710 m, which helps with acclimatisation. Jeep sections in the Kali Gandaki valley are rough; the alternative is the Jomsom flight from Pokhara.

Day 1 – Gorakhpur to Kathmandu

A long road day through Sonauli and the Prithvi Highway, arriving in Kathmandu by night.
