Char Dham yatra package: common questions

Char Dham Yatra Package is structured around the actual route rather than a generic destination description. The travel sequence covers Day 1, 2 · Gorakhpur, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Barkot (Yamunotri base, with transfer-heavy sectors separated from sightseeing time.

The 10-12 Days plan can be adjusted for hotel category, vehicle, meals and optional visits, but the final quotation should keep the published route facts and realistic travel time clear.

Suggested Travel Itinerary

1

Day 1–2 · Gorakhpur → Haridwar / Rishikesh

The yatra begins with the drive from Gorakhpur to Haridwar, roughly 550 km that most groups cover in a day and a half rather than one long push, with an overnight halt partway — commonly around Lucknow or Bareilly, depending on departure time.Haridwar, on the banks of the Ganga, is where most Char Dham groups spend an evening at the Har Ki Pauri ghat for the Ganga Aarti before the yatra proper begins the next morning. The night is spent in Haridwar or nearby Rishikesh.

Day 3 · Haridwar → Barkot (Yamunotri base)

From Haridwar the road climbs into the Garhwal hills toward Barkot, a stretch of about 200 km that takes 7 to 8 hours through Mussoorie or the Yamuna valley route depending on that season's road conditions.Barkot serves as the overnight base before the push to Yamunotri, since the temple itself has no significant accommodation nearby. The night is spent in Barkot.
🏨 Barkot
3

Day 4 · Yamunotri Darshan

Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna river and the first of the four dhams on this circuit, is reached by a steep 5 to 6 km trek — or a pony or palki ride for those who prefer — from Janki Chatti, the last motorable point. The trek climbs through pine forest alongside the Yamuna to a temple set above 3,200 metres, next to hot springs where pilgrims traditionally cook rice as an offering before darshan. The group returns to Barkot or a nearby base by evening.
🏨 Barkot/Uttarkashi

Day 5 · Barkot → Gangotri

The drive to Gangotri covers roughly 200 km and 7 to 8 hours, dropping back through Uttarkashi before climbing again toward the source of the Ganga.Uttarkashi, a mid-point on this leg, is a good lunch stop and home to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, a smaller echo of its Varanasi namesake. The night is spent in Gangotri or Uttarkashi depending on room availability that season.
🏨 Gangotri/Harsil

Day 6–7 · Gangotri → Kedarnath

Gangotri temple, dedicated to the goddess Ganga, sits at around 3,100 metres and — unlike the other three dhams — is reached directly by road with no trek required. From here the route turns toward Kedarnath: first by road to Sonprayag or Gaurikund, then via the roughly 16 to 18 km trek (or helicopter, where booked) up to the temple at over 3,500 metres, the most physically demanding leg of the circuit. This stretch is usually spread across two days to allow for the climb and an overnight stay near the base before darshan.
🏨 Kedarnath/Sonprayag

Day 8–9 · Kedarnath → Badrinath

After Kedarnath darshan and the descent back to the roadhead, the journey continues toward Badrinath — one of the longer road stretches of the yatra at around 220 to 240 km via Rudraprayag and Joshimath, typically split across a day and a half.Badrinath temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, sits at close to 3,100 metres in the Garhwal Himalayas and, unlike Kedarnath, is directly accessible by road. The night is spent in Badrinath after darshan.
🏨 Badrinath
7

Day 10–11 · Badrinath → Haridwar → Return

The return journey retraces the route back down to Haridwar, a long final push of roughly 320 to 330 km typically split across a day and a half with an overnight stop en route. From Haridwar the group either concludes the yatra there or continues on to Gorakhpur, closing a circuit that began nearly two weeks earlier.Checkout and the exact drop point are confirmed the evening before the final departure.
